AUSTRALIAN OPAL CENTRE
The Australian Opal Centre (AOC) is a vibrant not-for-profit ‘people’s project’, with members and supporters worldwide. The AOC explores and celebrates Australia’s national gemstone through art and scientific research, education, training, and cultural and economic development. It has assembled Australia’s premier public collection of priceless opalised fossils, stunning opal gemstones and history and heritage of Australia’s opal fields.
To house its internationally significant collections, programs and activities, the AOC has commissioned an extraordinary light-filled, two-storey underground building designed by celebrated Australian architects Glenn Murcutt and Wendy Lewin. The building will be a 21st century architectural icon, destination and hub of creativity and enterprise located at Lightning Ridge, NSW.
JEWELLERS ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA
Established in 1931, the Jewellers Association of Australia (JAA) works to represent and protect the interests of the jewellery industry and its consumers. With a membership of around 1100 outlets, the JAA is a national organisation that covers all areas of the jewellery industry - from manufacturing and wholesaling to distribution and retail.
The JAA is proud to promote the highest standards and ethics within the Australian jewellery industry and encourages consumers to shop with confidence where they see the JAA member sign. Diamonds by Design is owned by Karen Lindley, a qualified gemmologist and registered valuer with nearly 40 years experience in the Australian gem industry.
Passionate about supporting local small businesses and charitable causes, Karen has served terms on many industry and not-for-profit boards including AGIA, OANG, JAA Boards, the Humpty Dumpty Foundation and The Small Business Development Board. Karen recently received awards for 2014 NSW Volunteer of the Year and 2015 District NSW Woman of the Year.
